Congregational Church – Ovid Michigan

A Large Wooden Church With A Tall Spired Tower, Arched Windows, And A Circular Rose Window Stands In Ovid, Michigan, With Steps And Small Porches At The Entrances.

Ovid’s “Cong. Church” postcard shows the First Congregational Church of Ovid with its tall spired tower and a round “rose” window on the front gable. The congregation organized in 1871, and the church building was constructed in 1872. Later, in 1899, the structure was moved and enlarged at its current downtown site (described in historic records as Main and Pearl).

The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, and Ovid’s local history notes it has since been repurposed for community use.

Do you remember this building as a church — or what it was used for when you first saw it?
