Elias Comstock Log Cabin – Owosso Michigan

A Color Postcard Shows A Small Log Cabin Labeled As Owosso’s First House Built In 1836, With Signs Over The Doorway Reading “Comstock’s Home” And “Beginning Of Owosso.”

This postcard-style view shows the Elias Comstock log cabin, often promoted as the first house built in Owosso (1836). The sign on the building reads “Comstock’s Home … Built May 1836” and “Beginning of Owosso.”

For decades, the original cabin was swallowed up by later additions — until the property was being cleared in the early 1920s and the log structure was “rediscovered” inside the larger house. Preservation efforts led by the local Daughters of the American Revolution helped save it, and the cabin was later moved more than once before landing near Curwood Castle Park (last move commonly dated to 1969).

Have you visited the cabin museum — or heard family stories about early Owosso landmarks?
