Ockers Inn on Glen Lake, Empire Michigan

Sepia-Toned Photo Of A Large Two-Story Wooden Inn Labeled “Ockers,” With People Standing And Sitting On The Front Porch, Framed By Tre

This postcard-style photo shows Ockers on Glen Lake near Empire, Michigan, with guests gathered along the long front porch.

The lakeside hotel opened in 1906 as the Cold Spring(s) Inn, built by lumberman John Biddleman, then later became Ocker’s (Ockers) Inn. In the mid-1950s, the Wright family renamed it the Glen Lake Manor. Many locals also remember its later chapter as The Manor on Glen Lake, overlooking Little Glen Lake near the Narrows.

What do you know or remember about Ockers — a stay, a meal, a wedding, or someone who worked there?
