Hemily Hardware – Newaygo Michigan – c1945

Black-And-White Downtown Street Photo Showing Hemily Hardware Storefront Signage, Several Parked Cars And A Delivery Truck, And “Street Scene, Newaygo, Mich., Dick Black Photo” Written Along The Bottom.

Hemily Hardware takes center stage in this real-photo postcard street scene from downtown Newaygo, Michigan, credited to “Dick Black Photo.” The storefront signage also points to Hemily Lumber & Building Material, plus a Hotpoint appliances sign down the block and a Coca-Cola board advertising “groceries & meats.”

The date is often given as the mid-1940s, but the cars and styling look more like the late 1940s or early 1950s — so the exact year still needs confirming. Either way, it’s a sharp snapshot of a small-town business district when hardware stores were true supply hubs.

Do you remember Hemily Hardware — or know what street this is and when the photo was taken?
