Trout Fishing Near Mio Michigan c1900

Three Anglers Stand On A Brushy Riverbank Casting Fishing Lines Into A Swift Stream, With Fallen Branches And Trees Behind Them.

Three anglers in long coats and wide-brim hats work their lines from a brushy bank along a fast-moving trout stream near Mio in northern Michigan. Mio sits on the Au Sable River system, a stretch long known for coldwater fishing and later mapped by the state for “blue ribbon” trout waters.

Long before today’s waders and graphite rods, Michigan anglers were already traveling north for famous rivers — the Au Sable drew national attention by the late 1800s.

Do you recognize this spot, or have a family trout story from the Mio area?
