Log Cabin Inn, Ron’s Restaurant & Kinney’s Five & Dime – Mio – c1950

Black-And-White Photo Of A Small-Town Michigan Main Street With 1950S Cars Parked Along Storefronts Labeled Kinney’s 5-10, Ron’s Restaurant, And A Log Cabin Inn Sign.

This street scene shows downtown Mio — with the Log Cabin Inn sign out front, Ron’s Restaurant, and Kinney’s Five & Dime (a “5-10¢ and up” variety store) drawing foot traffic on a bright day. Parked along the curb are rounded, postwar-era cars that fit the early 1950s look.

Mio is the county seat of Oscoda County, and Morenci Avenue (M-33) meets M-72 right in town — a crossroads that’s long served travelers headed for the Au Sable River country.

The Log Cabin Inn name also turns up in reports of a major Mio fire in 1975.

Do you remember shopping at Kinney’s or eating at Ron’s — or know where these buildings stood?
