The Loop at Orchard Beach, Manistee, Michigan -Electric Trolley Interurban

A Long Wooden Shelter Platform Sits Beside A Curved Trolley Track As A Streetcar Approaches, With A Group Of People Waiting Under The Roof And Tall Trees Behind.

A covered platform labeled “The Loop at Orchard Beach” greets riders as an electric trolley car rolls in near Manistee, Michigan. This was the end-of-the-line turning loop for the local electric railway that carried city residents and vacationers out to the lakeshore — part transportation, part summer fun.

Historic accounts describe a streetcar system based in Manistee that included a branch running along Lake Michigan to Orchard Beach, with cars ranging from open to enclosed coaches. The loop made it easy to reverse direction for the trip back to town.

Do you know where this platform sat at Orchard Beach — or did your family ever talk about taking the trolley out for the day?
