A long, low railroad station at Walloon Lake sits beside a curving track in this classic Northern Michigan scene — with a semaphore signal, telegraph poles and an early automobile pulled up to the platform.
Walloon Lake was served by a short spur off the Grand Rapids & Indiana line at Walloon Lake Junction, and summer service could mean multiple passenger trains a day coming down from Petoskey. The village history notes that this “Dummy” spur reached the lake in 1891 and that rail service to the village ended in 1928, as cars took over.
