Crowds Gather for 4th of July at the Manchester House – Manchester Michigan c1900

Black-And-White Photo Of A Three-Story Brick Hotel Labeled “Manchester House” With Flags And A Crowd Gathered Under A Large Awning On A Downtown Street Corner.

A crowd fills the sidewalk outside the Manchester House in this vintage view from downtown Manchester, Michigan. Flags and bunting hang from the awning as people in dress hats and summer clothes gather at the corner — the kind of scene you’d expect for a big holiday, like the Fourth of July.

This building had a long run under several names. Local historical signage notes the Manchester Hotel (also called the Manchester House, Goodyear House and Freeman House) anchored the northeast corner of Main and Clinton streets and served travelers, meetings and community life for decades.

Do you have family stories or old photos from July 4 celebrations in Manchester?
