Historic G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) Hall Leslie

A Stone-Front Building Labeled “G.a.r. Hall” Stands Along A Street In Leslie, Michigan, With Several Vintage Cars Parked In Front And More Buildings Stretching Down The Block.

A stone-front building marked “G.A.R. Hall” anchors this downtown view in Leslie, Michigan, with mid-century cars lined up along the curb. The G.A.R. — Grand Army of the Republic — was a fraternal organization for Union Civil War veterans, and halls like this served as meeting places and community landmarks.

In Leslie, the G.A.R. hall was completed in 1903 as a memorial hall for the local post and the Woman’s Relief Corps, and it was later deeded to the village. Today, it’s still one of Leslie’s most recognizable historic buildings.

Do you know what businesses once operated next door — or what events you remember happening in this hall?
