North Side Main Street Jonesville Michigan – c1910

A Wide Street Scene Shows Jonesville’s Main Street With Multi-Story Brick Storefronts, Awnings, Early Cars, And Pedestrians, Labeled “North Side Main St. Looking West.”

North Side Main Street, looking west in Jonesville, is lined with tall brick storefronts and striped awnings in this circa-1910 view (exact year not confirmed). Early automobiles sit at the curb while pedestrians move along the sidewalk — a busy business district captured before pavement, neon and parking lots took over.

Jonesville grew up where the Sauk Trail met the St. Joseph River, and its downtown became the commercial hub for the surrounding farms and small industries. Today’s city history notes that the Sauk Trail is now U.S. 12, still cutting through the heart of town.

Do you recognize any of the buildings — or did your family ever talk about shopping on Main Street in “old Jonesville”?
