Au Train’s lumber story goes back to the 1860s, when logging began along the Au Train River and sawmill work followed soon after. By the late 1800s, Michigan’s timber era was reshaping communities across the state, with rail lines and river drives moving logs from deep woods to mills and Great Lakes shipping points.
