Main Street Looking North – Near Hotel Menominee Michigan – c1910

A Wide Downtown Street View Shows A Streetcar On Tracks, Brick Buildings With Awnings, Early Cars Parked At The Curb, And A Tall Hotel Building With A Clock Tower In The Distance.

This circa-1910 view looks north on Main Street in Menominee, with a streetcar rolling up the tracks past storefront awnings and early automobiles. On the right is the Hotel Menominee — known earlier as the Stephenson Hotel, a landmark local indexes say was built in 1881.

Menominee’s streetcars were part of the twin-city transit story with neighboring Marinette, linking downtown life to the riverfront and the Wisconsin line. The Wisconsin Historical Society even holds an image tied to the Menominee and Marinette Light and Traction Company from the same era of streetcar travel.

Do you recognize any of these buildings — or did your family ever talk about riding the Menominee streetcar?
