Captured in Time: A Steamer and the Delicatessen on Walloon Lake September 24, 1908

Sepia-Toned Photo Of A Small Steamer Tied To A Dock On A Lake, With A Narrow Boat In The Foreground Labeled “The Delicatessen” And People Visible On The Vessels.

A small steamer sits at a Walloon Lake dock while a slender boat in the foreground carries the name “THE DELICATESSEN.” The photo is even dated in the corner: Sept. 24, ’08.

Walloon Lake once had working passenger steamers that ferried visitors and locals around the shoreline before good roads were common. Local history sources name boats such as the Tourist, Tempest and Outing as part of that steamboat era on the lake.

The “Delicatessen” name pops up in Walloon Lake materials tied to local businesses (including a delicatessen operated by Shepard), but it’s not confirmed whether this boat’s name is connected to that store.

Do you know which dock this was — or who ran “The Delicatessen”?
