Main Street in Ovid looks wide open in this early photo postcard view — brick storefronts, canvas awnings and a dirt road built for foot traffic, horses and wagons. A University of Michigan postcard record dates a nearly identical “Main St. Ovid, Mich.” scene to 1911, which fits the utility poles and pre-pavement street here.
On the left, you can make out shop signage including “Furniture” and “Music,” a reminder that even small Michigan towns supported specialty stores before big-box retail. The Ovid Historical Society says none of the early-1900s buildings on Main Street remain today.
What do you know or remember about downtown Ovid — or what’s there now?
