Bryers Service Station offered more than gasoline to travelers passing through Bitely, Michigan. This roadside scene shows three tall gasoline pumps, a man beside the pumps and a woman in the doorway, while signs advertise Coca-Cola, 7-Up and services that included cabins and fishing bait.
The photograph appears to date from the 1930s or later, not the early automobile era. One useful clue is the 7-Up advertising: the soft drink was introduced in 1929. Bitely was also developing as a small northern Michigan resort destination during the 1920s and 1930s, with cottages and recreational development bringing visitors to the area.
