Downtown Leslie, when Main Street was still dirt and the tracks ran right down the middle.
In this postcard-style view, the Post Office sits in the “Post Office Block,” next door to A.O. Du Bois — with the taller Union Block rising behind. Out front: a horse and buggy, pedestrians on the sidewalk, and a big billboard advertising “polite vaudeville” at the Bijou Theatre on the Lansing–Jackson circuit.
Leslie was also a stop on the electric interurban line between Jackson and Lansing, which helped tie small towns to bigger city trips in the early 1900s.
Do you recognize any of these buildings — or know what businesses came next in this block?
