Stration Handle Factory Tower Michigan

Workers Stand And Sit Among Logs And Narrow-Gauge Tracks Outside A Michigan Handle Factory, With Mill Buildings And A Horse Team Behind Them.

The photo shows a group of workers gathered among logs and narrow-gauge tracks outside the D.A. Straton Handle Factory in Tower, Michigan. A horse team stands beside the mill buildings, while a tall industrial stack rises at the right.

The University of Michigan’s David V. Tinder Collection identifies the site as the D.A. Straton Handle Factory. A 1905 account says the plant made broom handles and other turned wood products, with a reported capacity of 25,000 handles a day and 30 workers.
