The Cascades Campus Near Romeo Michigan C1929 (Restored Photo)

The Cascades spillway on the Clinton River in Ray Township, just east of Romeo, pours like a man-made waterfall in this restored view. The stone towers and long drop were part of a late-1920s development pitched as a “distinctive” retreat north of Detroit — complete with a clubhouse, dining and recreation. Local history accounts say the dam and clubhouse opened to visitors in 1928, but the 1929 stock market crash helped stall the larger plan before it could fully take shape.

Have you ever visited The Cascades site — or heard stories about the lights and gatherings there?
