Mowry Hotel and Restaurant – Atlanta Michigan c1939

Black-And-White Street Scene Showing The Two-Story Mowry Hotel And Restaurant With Porch Columns And Several Late-1930S Cars Parked In Front, With A “Groceries And Meats” Storefront Beside It.

Cars line the street outside the Mowry Hotel and Restaurant in Atlanta, Michigan, in a photo often dated to about 1939.

Look close and you’ll spot a “cocktail bar” sign in the window and a liquor sign out front — a hint that downtown Atlanta catered to travelers and locals alike as car traffic filled the curb. Next door, the stone-front “Groceries and Meats” shop shows how tightly packed Main Street businesses once were.

Do you remember the Mowry, or know what came after it at this spot?
