Inspecting the Kehoe Farm – Bath School Explosion – May 18, 1927

Black-And-White Photo Of People Standing In A Field With Scattered Farm Equipment And Debris, With A Tall Chimney In The Background.

Twisted wagon wheels and scattered farm equipment sit in a field as people gather to inspect the damage at the Kehoe farm in Bath Township on May 18, 1927.

The writing on this photo says, “View showing the maniac had plenty of farm implements … Bath, Mich. May 18, 1927 … Photo by L. Waldron, Grand Ledge.” That wording reflects the heated, sensational tone that often appeared on real-photo postcards made in the immediate aftermath.

Investigators documented that Andrew Kehoe destroyed his farm buildings with explosives and fire the same morning he carried out the bombing at Bath Consolidated School — an attack that remains the deadliest on a U.S. school.

Have you ever come across old postcards or family keepsakes connected to the Bath disaster?
