Toledo and Western Railway Company – Adrian, Michigan, 1903

Black-And-White Photo Of An Interurban Railcar In A Trench Near An Underpass, With A Crowd Beside The Tracks And People Standing Along A Bridge Overhead.

Toledo and Western Railway Company – Adrian, Michigan, 1903 shows passengers gathered around Toledo & Western interurban car No. 2 at an underpass in Adrian. The scene is dated to August 1903.

The Toledo & Western was an electric interurban line linking Toledo to Adrian in the early 1900s. Railroad histories note an underpass was completed in 1903 to help the line reach Adrian’s city tracks and downtown.

If your family stories include interurbans — or if you remember when passenger rail still shaped daily life in Lenawee County — we’d love to hear it. What do you know or remember about this crossing or the Toledo & Western?
