Buckeye House on Burt Lake With Steamer Tourist II tieing up on Dock

Black-And-White Photo Of The Buckeye House Hotel On Burt Lake With The Steamer Tourist Ii Tied To A Dock In The Foreground.

The steamer Tourist II ties up at the dock of the Buckeye House on Burt Lake in this undated northern Michigan scene.

Burt Lake sits on the Inland Waterway — a chain of lakes and rivers that connected travelers by boat long before highways and big marinas. A 1902 Cheboygan County plat listed the Sager Bros. as proprietors of the Buckeye House and called it a headquarters for fishermen. Later, a 1924 Michigan newspaper reported a fire destroyed the Buckeye House, describing it as the oldest and largest summer hotel on Burt Lake.

Do you know where the Buckeye House stood — or have family stories about the Tourist II or other Inland Waterway boats?
