Holland’s Wooden Shoe Factory — also advertised as a “Dutch Novelty” shop — drew visitors in with window displays of clogs and souvenirs in Holland, Michigan. Inside, postcard views show a craftsman carving wooden shoes by hand, surrounded by curls of wood and rows of finished pairs.

The Holland Museum notes that Chester Van Tongeren’s family business dates to 1926 and began by making wooden shoes before it became better known for wooden bowls. Today, Pure Michigan’s tourism site says the former Wooden Shoe Factory building is home to the Wooden Shoe Antique Mall.
Do you remember stopping here — or bringing home a pair of wooden shoes?
